I don’t think we have a red light district here in Brighton, of course I have seen cards in the phone boxes (these appear to have vanished now ) but that is the only real evidence I have that there is a sex industry in the town.
Apparently other towns have red light districts where prostitutes ply their trade on the streets.
The recent conviction of Steven Wright the famous Radio 2 DJ, well known for his Sunday Love Songs hour, for the murder of 5 prostitutes in Ipswich has raised public awareness of these vulnerable professions in our midst. The town of Bournemouth has even taken the step of supplying personal alarms to its legions of streetwalkers.
Chief Superintendent Bob Boulton, head of Bournemouth and Poole Police, said prostitutes are vulnerable because of the very nature of their job.
Chief Supt Boulton said: “Offering personal alarms is just one of a range of steps intended to increase safety. We also offer personal safety advice, and there are outreach workers available who provide support and advice to the working women.”I’d like to re-assure everyone in Bournemouth, working women in particular, that we are committed to keeping them safe, and I’d urge anyone who has any worries or safety concerns to contact Bournemouth police straight away.”
I dont know if they are likely to roll out this in Brighton as, for some reason the ‘ladies of the night’ either fear the streets or have cozy bordellos to work from. Maybe there just is not the same level of urges amongst Brighton residents, who knows. For sure a personal alarm per Hooker is a nice idea to be sure.
If they really want to protect themselves they could opt for the ‘prototype’ *above* Personal Alarm Shoe for Prostitutes which have a built in personal alarm, emitting a piercing noice and also contain a GPS transmitter to allow them to be located in case of emergency.

Man, I love football. I don’t actually like the game itself, I mean I would rather watch a game of Rugby or Cricket but what I love is the gradual shifts of power which take place over a season.
Any football lover who does not appreciate a test match should consider that, that the real beauty is like that of an entire season, with all its trials and tribulations.
I have followed the premier league this season with much interest and have placed several bets which have done me well. I used the betfair website to bet on Arsenal to win the league ( I still think that is on ). I also wagered a substantial sum on Liverpool to win the champions league, ( still on course at time of posting). My best bet so far was on Man City to beat Man U - pleasing in many ways to win that one.
The online betting service at betfair allows me to place several bets at a time and offers good odds. What I like best about it is the simple layout. You can navigate easily and select from a good variety of combinations to either give yourself a good chance of winning a little or little chance of winning big. Like selecting total number of goals scored is a fun way to bet on football and it certainly makes for enjoying the game, gets you right off your seat.
To tell the truth I don’t win much from my online betting but the main thing is that it is fun and I don’t lose much at all. I really adds to the enjoyment of football. I fancy a large punt on Brighton to win the league this year.

Well, friends of mine are off to the states ( the Unites Ones ) next month for a few weeks, and had a while to ponder how they would deal with their communications needs whilst over the pond.
They rather sensibly acquired a Pay As You Go American SIM card and then needed a suitable mobile.
Luckily I had a spare Nokia 6230 nokiaing about which is TriBand and unlocked, its talk time is not superb, but they have picked up a car charger from ebay and an American PSU.
They will need to find about networks and call charges I suppose and calling them from Brighton will be expensive so I will forgo that option.
If data charges in the US are as cheap, comparatively , as their fuel charges I guess they will be able to access their email via GPRS as the Nokia 6230 supports this method.
The large storage space of free webmail these days, Gmail or MSN, allows them also to email themselves and store whatever planning documents, maps and information they will need whilst travelling for easy retreival via the web.
